This MCQ was asked in MHT-CET 2010 Biology.
The correct answer to this questions is 4 nuclei. Almost all students write 5 as the answer. This is a very tricky question. Read below for explanation.
Explanation:
Key concept: At maturity, the two haploid polar nuclei fuse with each other to form a single secondary nucleus.
Thus, the nuclei participating in double fertilization are:
- Nucleus of male gamete with egg cell (first fertilization or syngamy)
- Secondary nucleus and other male gamete(second fertilization or triple fusion)
Commonly, students make the mistake of counting 3 nuclei in the second step(triple fusion) instead of 2.
how many cell are involved in double fertilization
sir, but almost all text books say dat 5 nucei participate…..n all our teachers have told the same thing so what shud v do??
can you give me clarification about vegetative& generative nucleus of male gametophyte of angiosperms
thanks sir this que was unable for me buy reding ur all coments i can recozince…….thnaks
Glad you got it, thanks for replying.
Clarification about THESE things? Its quite simple, I don’t know why one should have a problem with this. If you have any specific query about it though, please go ahead ans ask it specifically.
I have already explained to my best ability. I hope you have read the discussions I was having with certain students in the comments. Rest is upto you.
After fusion, both the nuclei together assume a common single identity. So you cannot count them as two different ones.
sir i likd ur xplaination very much instead i like every thing in short and easy to understand thank u sir
sir, where can i get mht cet past papers???
thanx 4 helping us
thnx a lot
Can you suggest me a good book for practicing multiple choice questions for biology?
sir you says that there are 4 nuclei involed in double fertilisation but in 2010 pmt paper there was no option for 4
this is maharashtra state board, dont drag pmt or cbse books here!
first focus on GTB…everthing else without GTB is big big big waste!
Sir…..may I know what is the relation between number of nuclei participating in double fertilization Maharashtra state board , cbse and PMT????
