DMER has revealed that 654 in the top 1000 rankers of MHT-CET 2008 (med) were repeaters. Repeaters are students who have earlier been unsuccessful in making to a making college through MHT-CET. This information was disclosed by DMER in support of its proposal to limit the no. of attempts at MHT-CET examination to 3 till 25 yrs. of age[Jan 2009].
It is surprising that the figure is so high at 65% considering that there was a major change-over in syllabus. It may also be noted that under MHT-CET’s tie-breaking rules, older candidates may be ranked higher than younger candidates with the same grand total. There are a no. of factors that work in favour of repeaters most valuable being surplus availability of time as they do not have to prepare for H.S.C. and MHT-CET tie breaking rules.
